Last week, Lollipop Chainsaw, a great video game classic, made a comeback with the announcement of a remake. But will the rather daring proposal have to censor its content to return in 2023?

Censure or not censure ?

Without really expecting it, last week, Yoshimi Yasuda, the emblematic developer behind great classics like No More Heroes or Killer7 and Killer is Dead, decided to resuscitate one of its flagship productions: Lollipop chainsaw. In effect, the license of Suda51, now recovered by Dragami Games and its CEO Yoshimi Yasuda, will return in 2023 with a Remake that will adopt a more “realistic” vision. This word, directly used by the developers, obviously scared the fans who were afraid that the saga would be completely transformed. Following the many reactions, Yoshimi Yasuda decided to speak to reassure them.

We have taken note of the various speculations that the Lollipop Chainsaw Remake will alter history. From our end, we believe that the story of Lollipop Chainsaw is an important part of what fans love about the original game, and we, the development team, agree with that. Conclusion, the story will not be changed in the Remake. Also, we have no intention of changing the aesthetics of the game. Yoshimi Yasuda, director of Lollipop Chainsaw Remake

Good news, then, for those who were worried, Lollipop Chainsaw Remake will offer exactly the same story as in the original version. The aesthetics of the game, while cel-shaded, and the character design of the heroine will also be unchanged. What should then be understood by a “more realistic tone” is that the game will fully exploit the power of the new machines.

Nevertheless, despite all this reassuring news for fans of the game, it is not said that there will be no censorship when the game is released, since Yoshimi Yasuda also stated that he is “currently negotiating with platform holders” to keep the title “as close to the original version as possible”. A statement that is cause for concern.

A legal problem?

When it comes to music, however, the news is less encouraging. Even if some original songs will indeed be kept – Yoshimi Yasuda has already affirmed this several times – others will be purely and simply deleted. It is easy to imagine that these deletions are due to questions of rights.

As a reminder, Lollipop Chainsaw Remake is expected for 2023. Unfortunately, the platforms that will be compatible have not yet been announced.
