Lufthansa stops flights to Tehran, AUA continues to fly for the time being

AUA parent Lufthansa will not fly to Iran’s capital Tehran until Saturday. “We reassessed the security situation today and extended the cancellation of the daily flight from Frankfurt to Tehran until April 13,” a company spokeswoman said yesterday.

The AUA continued its flights. However, the departure of the AUA aircraft from Vienna will be postponed by a few hours “in order to keep the time between landing and departure in Tehran as short as possible,” said an AUA spokeswoman. “Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines come to the same safety assessment for the situation on site.” However, there are labor law reasons for the different handling.

Because of the short flight time, the AUA crew does not have to spend the night in Tehran and can fly back on the same day. However, those of Lufthansa flying from Frankfurt would have to spend the night there.

Due to the tense security situation in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry is advising its citizens not to travel to the region. This applies in particular to Israel, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, the ministry announced yesterday.

According to a report by the Bloomberg news agency, the US and its allies assume that serious missile or drone attacks by Iran or its allies on military and state targets in Israel could be imminent.
