Man guilty of murder out of jealousy burst into tears in court

Thinking that Mr. L. had an emotional relationship with his wife, Duy took a pickaxe and hit this man’s head. On the court date, seeing his relatives, Duy burst into tears.

On February 28, the People’s Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial against Tran Van Duy, born in 1984, residing in Dien Thap commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An province for murder.

Accordingly, at about 6 pm, on July 13, 2022, Tran Van Duy went to their church to attend a party. At about 9:30 pm on the same day, when going to the back of their church to clean, Duy saw CVL, SN 1981 and many others sitting and drinking water on the courtyard in their church. Due to the misunderstanding that Mr. L. had an emotional relationship with his wife, Duy had the intention to beat Mr. L.

Thinking to do it, Duy took a pickaxe and went to where Mr. L. sat and used a hoe to hit this man’s head. As a result, the man was injured and taken to the hospital. The rate of bodily harm caused by injury is 28%.

After the incident happened, Duy and Mr. L. reached an agreement to complete compensation for the civil part of 76 million VND.

Defendant Duy burst into tears when he saw and talked with his relatives at the trial.

At the trial, Tran Van Duy also confessed his crime. Duy said that because of drinking and jealousy, he could not control himself. Duy also admitted that the jealousy was his imagination, but there was no evidence.

The victim present at the court hearing did not ask for additional civil compensation. Mr. L. also wrote an application to reduce the sentence for the defendant. This man said he also forgave Duy because the incident was just a misunderstanding.

At the time of deliberation, seeing Duy’s relatives burst into tears. Perhaps now Duy understands the price to pay for his impulsive actions. Seeing Mr. L., Duy also slowly asked about this man’s health.

Considering the case comprehensively, the trial panel sentenced defendant Tran Van Duy to 5 years and 6 months in prison for murder.
