A male resident surnamed Li (41 years old) of the building felt unwell due to smoke inhalation and was sent to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. Another 70-year-old elder needed fire assistance. It is reported that a man surnamed Liang (61 years old) in the building called the police, saying that he heard heavy objects falling from a height, and then a fire broke out. According to sources, the platform where the fire started was originally a restaurant, but it has been closed for a while. Residents of the building suspected that someone threw cigarette butts from a height onto the street, burning the canvas awning on the platform and causing a fire. A nearby restaurant was also affected, and a notice was posted stating that diners and employees had been evacuated immediately, and that they had to close for one day. A person in charge of the restaurant recalled that at that time, black smoke billowed straight up, the fire was violent, and at least 10 explosions were heard, attracting a large crowd of onlookers. As its restaurants are within the blockade area, the gates need to be closed, and the loss is currently unknown. In addition, the employees of the bakery downstairs from the fire alarm could not resist the thick smoke and choked their nostrils, so they walked out of the shop to take shelter temporarily, quite embarrassed; a driver passed by the scene and claimed: “Mong Kok Huozhu, opposite Kwong Wah, it’s so hot.”
