If Yannick Carrasco had a difficult week suffering two defeats (against Manchester City in the Champions League and Mallorca in La Liga), that of Thibaut Courtois could hardly have been more beautiful.
After the nice success won at Chelsea during the week, the Merengues did not have to force to overcome Getafe during this (small) Madrid derby. Although he had almost nothing to do, Courtois at least had the chance to witness a true masterpiece: Vinicius Jr’s outside of the foot assist for Casemiro. This 100% Brazilian achievement and Lucas Vazquez’s goal in the second period saw Carlo Ancelotti’s men extend their lead over Sevilla FC, the first pursuer, to 12 points. FC Barcelona, who travel to Levante this Sunday, can still come back to nine units from Casa Blanc if they win their two games behind.
Once in control, Real entertained at times but also thought about managing efforts. Peacefully enthroned at the top of La Liga, attention is logically turned to the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League. The Blues will land at the Bernabeu this Tuesday.
