Marie Bochet takes silver in super-G, disappointment for the other French

Disappointed after her retirement on the downhill, Marie Bochet reacted perfectly on the super-G, taking silver. For the rest, the disappointment was on the side of the Blues, in a day largely dominated by China.

Marie Bochet reassures herself with the money

No title, but a big relief for Marie Bochet. Eightfold gold medalist at the Paralympic Games, the French skier was content with silver on Sunday in the super-G (standing category), beaten by Chinese Zhang Mengqiu. This podium has the merit of erasing the disappointment of the day before, when Marie Bochet took off her shoes after two gates on the descent.

This medal “has a little taste of gold ! the Chinese was hard to pick up. I had to bounce back after yesterday, I was under a bit of pressure. Today, I have the silver medal, I am happy” reacted the Frenchwoman after the race. As in downhill, she was a double super-G title holder and therefore loses a new crown. She will now have the objective of resuming that of the super-combined, a discipline in which she won gold in 2014.

On the snowboard side, the French have not yet won a medal, but it could well be only a matter of time. The four Blues engaged on Sunday all qualified for the cross country quarter-finals. Maxime Montaggioni, Laurent Vaglica and Mathias Menendez, for men, and Cécile Hernandez, for women, will play for the title on Monday. The Frenchwoman, already a triple medalist at the Paralympic Games, even had the luxury of taking first place in qualifying.

Cécile Hernandez will be one of the favorites for gold in cross country on Monday.

Arthur Bauchet and Hyacinthe Deleplace do not continue

Crossed destinies for the French. If Marie Bochet managed to move forward after her disappointment in her first race, other Blues failed to follow up. Gold medalist in the downhill (standing category), Arthur Bauchet failed to double the bet and finished fourth in the super-G, the fault of a small error halfway through. He leaves the honors of the first place to the Chinese Liang Jingyi.

“There is disappointment, I tried to engage but there is this small fault on this left foot in the middle of the race which costs me dearly. Today is not great emotional level, yesterday was better. It’s a chocolate medal, I prefer the metal ones! », explained the French at the microphone of France TV.

Similar disappointment for Hyacinthe Deleplace. Also medalist (bronze) the day before in downhill (visually impaired), the Frenchman also failed at the foot of the podium in super-G, missing the medal by four hundredths. It was the British Neil Simpson who adorned himself with gold.

China alone in the world

Second in the medal standings following the first day, China took the lead in front of their public on Sunday, and even by a wide margin. With eight new medals, the Chinese doubled their total to overtake Ukraine (seven medals in all). In addition to Zhang Mengqiu and Liang Jingyi, who both frustrated the French, the host country was also able to count on Zheng Peng and Yang Hongqiong in the 15 kilometers and 12 kilometers (sitting category) in cross-country skiing to clinch four new titles (six in total).
