OM will know their opponent for the third preliminary round of the Champions League this Monday noon, qualifying for the play-offs. The first leg will take place on August 8 or 9, a week before the return.

OM’s 2023-2024 European adventure is already about to begin. The Marseille club will know its first opponent in the Champions League this Monday, or one of its two potential opponents, after the draw for the 3rd preliminary round which will take place from 12 p.m. (to follow live on RMC Sport).

Backa Topola, Sturm Graz, Genk, Panathinaïkos…

Placed at the top of the series, Marseille initially avoided Rangers, Braga and PSV Eindhoven. His opponent is among the Serbs of Backa Topola, the Austrians of Sturm Graz or the winners of the duels Genk (Belgium)-Servette (Switzerland) and Dnipro (Ukraine)-Panathinaikos (Greece). These last two matches, counting for the second qualifying round, will be played on July 25 and August 1-2.

OM will start their season with this third preliminary round on August 8 or 9, before a return scheduled for August 15. In the event of victory, it will then be necessary to play a play-off (August 22-23 and 29-30), probably against Rangers or Braga because of its non-seeded status for this round, before winning the right to play the group stage of the C1.

Probably in hat 4 in case of qualification

An elimination, on the other hand, would send Marcelino’s men directly to the group stage of the Europa League. If the Olympians, 3rd in the last French championship behind PSG and Lens, manage to pass these two rounds, they should be in the 4th hat of the draw for the group stages of the Champions League, scheduled for August 31.
