In its fight against organized crime, the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) of Marseille also targets arms trafficking, as illustrated by the dismantling of a network between Corsica, the continent and Switzerland. Twelve people were indicted on Thursday May 25 and Friday May 26 in the evening for arms trafficking and money laundering. Seven were remanded in custody and five under judicial supervision confirmed to the Monde the Marseilles public prosecutor’s office.

Most of these cases are related to violations of the legislation on weapons of categories A and B (“acquisition without authorization, detention transport and transfer, unauthorized in combination of one or more war materials”) but also to “detentions in an organized gang of incendiary or explosive substance or product to prepare destruction, degradation, harm to persons” and “association of criminals with a view to the preparation of one or more offences”. Finally, the instruction also covers acts of “aggravated money laundering”.

The Marseille judicial investigation began in April 2022, going up the wire of telephone interceptions, thanks, according to a police source, to “innovative technological prowess in terms of listening, via spyware installed in mobile phones remotely”. These investigations highlighted “many arms transactions between Sartenais, Var and Doubs”specifies the parquet floor of Marseille. “The gendarmes followed the route of weapons, new or from burglaries, particularly in Switzerland, some of which were recovered by two gunsmiths”, details a judicial source. From Switzerland to Besançon, they then joined the south of France and crossed the sea hidden in vehicles placed in the simplest way in the world on the ferries, according to the same source.
