In the energy sector, in Mauritania, the Ukrainian conflict is seen as an opportunity to accelerate the development of projects, at the head of which that of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim gas field, discovered in 2015 and located between Mauritania and Senegal. The start of production is expected soon, said Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Energy Abdessalam Mohamed Saleh.
« The field says Ahmeyim which will start producing at the end of 2023 and operated by British Petroleum. 2.5 million tonnes per year of gas in the first phase, to ramp up to 10 million tonnes per year. It will be liquefied gas intended for export and part will be consumed locally for the needs of electricity and local industry. So it’s a project that will start soon and which will therefore hopefully contribute to alleviating, I would say, the pressure that exists on certain European markets in particular. »
