The Delhaize distribution center in Ninove was slow on Tuesday. At issue: a strike by part of the staff. A “surprise” action since it is especially this Wednesday that the unions are once once more calling on food trade workers to strike.
It is always the negotiations around “purchasing power” bonuses that pose a problem. These bonuses are authorized by the government for workers whose companies make a profit. The big food brands make profits, but, according to the unions, they offer their workers grossly insufficient bonuses.
The actions of this Wednesday aim to demonstrate the anger of workers, but also to put pressure once more on employers. Indeed, a new round of negotiations is planned for this Thursday the day following this day of action.
No major disruptions planned for consumers this Wednesday. There will normally be no blocking of transport trucks leaving the depots. As the day of action was planned in advance, supermarkets were able to fill their shelves and stock up in anticipation of this day of action.
