Maya Jama is stepping down as host of Love Island after three years, the presenter announced on Instagram, saying it’s “time to throw myself into something new.”
The 32-year-old thanked fans and the production team for an “unforgettable time” on the ITV reality show, which she joined in 2023 after replacing Laura Whitmore.
Her departure comes hot on the heels of her appearance as a contestant on BBC’s Celebrity Traitors, a run that won her praise and speculation in the Times that she could “get £1m per deal” thanks to her success.
The Host’s Leap of Faith
Jama’s Instagram announcement was accompanied by a highlights reel of her time on the programme. “While my own Love Island journey has come to an end, I wish the show and the team all the success in the world, I’ll be cheering you lot on from the sidelines forever,” she wrote.
I started hosting the show aged 28 and during the nine incredible series met the most wonderful humans along the way. I’ve loved every slow-mo walk, fire pit and live show.

She added, But I’ve always believed that to truly grow, you have to take a leap every now and then.
An ITV spokesperson echoed her sentiment, Maya has been a fantastic and much loved host on Love Island – we thank her for everything she has brought to the show over the last three years and wish her every continued success.

Jama thanked the show’s production team for bringing this iconic show to life
and noted that the show really does belong to the people who watch it and embrace it year after year.
Yet the franchise’s immense popularity has not been without its challenges.
What Comes Next for Love Island and Its Host
The question now is who will fill Jama’s shoes. The show’s format relies heavily on the host’s energy and connection with the audience, making the transition critical.

As for Jama, the path ahead seems clear. Her performance on Celebrity Traitors, despite not winning the final, positioned her as less like the presenter of Love Island and more like a genuinely versatile television star
, according to one commentator. She first built her profile through radio and has consistently taken on new challenges, from auditioning for Skins at 15 to becoming the youngest person to host the MOBO Awards in 2017.
