Meeting zone: First steps in the Domgasse

2023-04-24 11:05:00

“The Domgasse should get a completely new face”: This announcement by the traffic officer, Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP), was followed by the first actions.

The road police ordinance required for the new meeting zone and thus a 20 km/h speed limit has already been signed and the necessary marking work has already been carried out. The newly marked zones in the Domgasse (the lane has been crossed in part) are to be social and communicative places in the future (keyword guest gardens and quiet zones). In a next step, seating furniture and mobile green are to follow the markings.

As reported, the transformation process of the meeting zone happened in cooperation with the University of Art and Design Linz. The redesign to increase the quality of life and stay is to be carried out in stages and with the involvement of residents and tradespeople.

“Our goal is to reflect the changing positions and
To bundle and coordinate the needs of all actors and to convert them into a holistic, broadly supported concept,” says Clemens Bauder, who is in charge of the participatory process. Bauder’s interdisciplinary course “Workshop Meeting Zone Domgasse” at the University of Art and Design Linz serves as a kind of project basis.

Exhibition “Trees of the Future”

Hajart promises “more quality of stay and more attractive guest gardens” from the project, climate councilor Eva Schobesberger (Greens) sees a good chance “to give the spaces in the city back to the people”. On the part of the city green department, the trees of the future from a tree exhibition that could be seen in the Botanical Garden last year would be made available for Domgasse. This presents tree species that have a future in the city despite climate change and is to be set up in the coming weeks.

The restaurateurs will also set up their guest gardens in the next few days, and benches will also be set up in Domgasse. On Friday, April 28, celebrations are on the agenda with the Domgassenfest, and events are also planned for Saturday.

decision by the end of the year

The final appearance of Domgasse will be decided by the end of the year. On May 17th and June 28th there will be an opportunity to discuss what has already been implemented and what is planned at citizen get-togethers. At the end of June, the first results from the art university course are to be presented. Further measures will be developed with the residents over the summer, and the individual steps will be evaluated in the autumn.
