During the weekend in Mendoza, the roads were once again a source of tragedy. In February, during Carnival, seven people died in road accidents in the province, and during Easter, there were different accidents in the routes and accesses to the province. Over Friday and Saturday, three people passed away and nine were injured in separate car accidents throughout the area, including the scenic areas of Alta Montaña, Malargüe, San Carlos, and San Martín. On Good Friday, a Chilean tourist died in an accident in the Alta Montaña area. A vehicle of Chilean origin overturned, killing one passenger and injuring the other four. Another car and truck collision resulted in severe injuries but no deaths. San Martín experienced tragedy when a 72-year-old woman lost her life. The vehicle in which she was traveling collided with another at an intersection in the San Martin community. On Saturday in Malargüe, a man passed away and three others were injured while riding motorcycles during an international meeting. Lastly, in San Carlos, a driver hit and severely injured a woman before fleeing the scene.
The routes were once again the protagonists, unfortunately, during the long weekend in Mendoza. It happened back in February, during the holidays of Carnival, with seven deaths road accidents in the province, and in the course of the holidays of EasterMendoza was once again in the news for the different accidents in the different routes and accesses to the province.
Between Friday and Saturday, three deaths and nine injured in different road accidents throughout the provincial territory. The area of Alta Montaña, Malargüe, San Carlos and San Martín were the scene of the tragic accidentssome of them fatal and others in which there was no regret muertos but they did result in significant injuries.
Good Friday rough in High Mountain
On Friday morning, the Alta Montaña area was the scene of a tragic road accident. A vehicle of Chilean origin overturned with five people on board at kilometer 1085, in Potrerillos, and one of them lost his life. He Sinister was starred by the driver of a Renault Symbol, identified as Joaquín Emiliano Celis (71) and with him were four women, members of his family, who had left Chile with Mendoza as their destination for Easter.
For reasons that are being investigated, the driver of the trans-Andean patent vehicle lost control of it, overturned and fell several meters into the ravine, which resulted in the total destruction of the vehicle. The medical personnel who approached the place verified the death in the act of the driver of Chilean nationality, and also reported that the rest of his companions were injured, for which they were urgently transferred to the hospital in the area to be assisted.
However, that was not the only accident in the High Mountain area during the Holy Friday. It is that after 9 hours of holidayanother one was registered road accident that involved a car and a truck, although on that occasion there was no regret death.
At kilometer 1023, in the well-known Curva del Tiempo area, in The caves, a Toyota Hilux led by a man and in the company of a woman, who was traveling to Mendoza, met a Gol Trend that was going to Chile, but crossed the double yellow line, crossed the lane and collided head-on with the truck. A boy and his sister were traveling in the car, and as a result of the crash, the latter was trapped in the vehicle and had to be rescued by fire personnel.
San Martín, another tragic scenario on Friday
Around noon on Friday, a 72-year-old woman lost her life in the department of San Martin while she was being transferred urgently and at high speed to a nearby hospital as a result of a decompensation she had suffered. There, the vehicle in which she was on board collided with another at an intersection in the San Martin community and she was urgently transferred to the Perrupato Hospital, where the doctors decreed her death.
As they announced in the first instance, the event occurred on Avenida Eva Perón, where the woman was aboard a Peugeot 206 that was on her way to a health center because she presented an emergency picture and the driver of the vehicle was honking through the streets and high speed. Upon reaching Calle Pública, he was hit by a Ford Fiesta that was trying to cross the intersection.
Thanks to the immediate notice of other people who were circulating in the area, an ambulance was present to transfer the woman who was decompensated. Unfortunately, upon arrival at the Perrupato Hospital, the doctors established that the woman had dead. However, the health center professionals indicated that the same passed away product of a previous health problem and that the accident had nothing to do with his death.
On Saturday, a dead man in Malargüe on the way to Las Leñas
The southern province was the scene of another fatal accident. In the vicinity of Las Leñas, in Malargüe, a man lost his life and three others were injured as a result of an accident aboard motorcycles. It happened around 11 in the morning on Route 222, about 5 kilometers from the Las Leñas complex, when hundreds of motorcyclists were heading towards the department of southern Mendoza for an international meeting of motorcycle riders.
According to the first investigations, the fatal victim, identified as Mario Videla (70), lost control of his vehicle in an attempt to avoid a hare and collided his companions, causing them to fall on the road.
As a consequence of accidentthree of them were injured and were transferred to the Doctor Rojas Hospital, while Videla died in the act. Carlos Barros, another fan who suffered the accident, was hospitalized in serious condition and with a diagnosis indicating head trauma, lung contusion and amputation of his left leg. In addition to Barros, his wife Norma Díaz -both from Entre Ríos- also suffered injuries and the third injured person was identified as Juan Antonio Días Lobo.
San Carlos: hit a woman and fled
On Saturday morning, around 8 a.m., a call alerted 911 to a Sinister occurred in Coronel Videla street and Route 40, in the department of San Carlos. According to witnesses to the event, a vehicle hit a woman and immediately escaped from her without assisting her.
The 41-year-old victim was diagnosed at the scene by medical personnel, who reported that she had amputated her left upper limb and severe multiple injuries after being hit by a hit-and-run driver.
She was transferred to the Scaravelli Hospital in Tunuyán, where she was admitted under observation. While they wait for her to recover so that she can give her testimony, the Police try to find the fugitive driver and members of the 41st Police Station collect testimonies in the area to try to identify him.
The long weekend in Mendoza has once again highlighted the need for safer roads and cautious driving.
