Recall shock at Mercedes

Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 100,000 C-Class models worldwide. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), 10,254 vehicles in Germany are probably affected. “A fire hazard cannot be ruled out,” says the official recall.

Affected are vehicles of the 206 series from the production period from October 2020 to June 2022, said a spokesman for the company in Stuttgart.

The problem: Moisture could penetrate the signal acquisition and control module (SAM) if water gets into the trunk. A possible short circuit could cause various malfunctions, and a vehicle fire is also possible.

Other difficulties: “Among other things, the exterior lighting at the rear of the vehicle could fail, the rear seat backrests could unlock without motivation and the reversing camera could not be available,” says the company spokesman.

Repair takes about an hour

The KBA advises those affected to contact the vehicle manufacturer or an authorized workshop immediately. Mercedes also wants to notify customers in writing and advises them to make an appointment in the workshop immediately. The necessary workshop stay lasts about an hour.

As a precautionary measure, the affected vehicles will be retrofitted with a cover over the SAM to prevent the possible ingress of water, the spokesman said.

What’s going on at Mercedes? This is already the third major recall, which Mercedes has had to initiate since November 2021. At the end of last year, entire 800,000 vehicles back to the workshop.

In June 2022 came the next major recall horror for the luxury automaker. Due to rust on the brake booster have to worldwide a million cars in the workshop. Because: In the worst case, the brakes can fail completely.
