A missing 18-year-old Budapest high school student who disappeared from his home in Zugló on October 6 has been found dead in Tököl, according to local reports. The discovery brings a tragic end to a weeks-long search for the young man, who was a tennis player for the BVSC club.
Authorities located the body on October 24 around noon in a field near the Csépi Road HÉV railway crossing in Tököl. A young female police officer participating in the search alongside volunteer rescue personnel first spotted the remains. Investigators later determined that the clothing matched the description issued in the missing person’s alert.
Police and rescue coordinators confirmed that foul play has been ruled out in the death. According to findings from the investigation, authorities concluded that the teenager took his own life.
Cell Phone Data Narrows Search for Teen
The search effort narrowed significantly in the days leading up to the discovery. Balázs László, head of the Pest County Search and Rescue Service, confirmed that the organization joined the operation about a week before the body was found, coordinating daily with law enforcement to comb the area.
Investigators traced the teen’s movements through digital footprints left by his mobile device. The young man’s cell phone registered on a network tower in Tököl on October 7. While that signal initially pointed search teams toward the area, authorities noted that the connection was merely an automated network handshake by the device, and the teenager was likely no longer alive at that time.
Following a broad and initially unsuccessful sweep of the surrounding terrain, rescue teams reduced their search grid to a span of several hectares near the railway crossing, ultimately leading to the discovery.
The Budapest Police Headquarters confirmed that the XIV District Police Department requested assistance from the Pest County Search and Rescue Service under active missing persons case records. The Szigetszentmiklós Police Department is currently examining the circumstances of the death through an administrative procedure, with officials withholding further details due to the ongoing investigation.

Representatives of the BVSC tennis club released statements mourning the loss of the young athlete, remembering him as a dedicated member of their sports community.
Acquaintances and local reports described the student as coming from a well-established, stable family background. At the same time, sources close to the inquiry noted that he tended to be withdrawn and kept mostly to himself, with few close friends.
Authorities have stated that the administrative investigation by the Szigetszentmiklós Police Department remains active as officers finalize procedural reports on the incident.
