Morocco asks its nationals to stay at home

L“Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco is closely following the situation in Burkina Faso and the events taking place there since Friday”the statement said.

Elle “reassures about the situation of members of the Moroccan community residing in Burkina Faso”the statement added, calling “compatriots to stay at home and observe all vigilance”.

“The embassy has set up a tracking unit and makes this emergency number available if needed: +226 06 41 80 80”the statement concluded.

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set up a monitoring unit and telephone numbers available to the Moroccan community in this African country.

“Following the developments in Burkina Faso, (…) the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, informs Moroccan nationals on the spot that a monitoring unit and telephone lines have been put in place to answer their questions »we read in the ministerial press release.

Likewise, the department of Bourita called on Moroccans in Burkina to communicate with the Moroccan embassy via the emergency number set up for this purpose, in addition to following the preventive measures that the Burkinabe parties could recommend.

Note that because of this coup, Royal Air Maroc canceled its flights Casablanca-Ouagadougou on October 1 and Ouagadougou-Casablanca on October 2.

On Friday, Burkinabe soldiers announced on national television the dismissal of the president of the transition, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who came to power in a coup last January.

The new strong man of the country, appointed president of the MPSR, is now captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The military also announced the closure of the country’s land and air borders from midnight, as well as the suspension of the Constitution and the dissolution of the government and the Transitional Legislative Assembly. A curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. has also been put in place.
