Morocco will be a “major player” in the field of medical cannabis, the therapeutic benefits of which are constantly being demonstrated, day after day, underlined Mr. Mechoulam in a videoconference intervention at the 3rd International Congress on the Therapeutic Use of Cannabis , held Sunday in Casablanca under the theme “From research to medical practice”.

Numerous clinical trials have demonstrated the enormous potential of cannabinoids, chemicals derived from cannabis, on diseases such as Alzheimer’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, chronic pain, inflammation, nervous system degeneration and drug addiction. nicotine, said the Israeli expert, the first chemist to isolate THC, the main active molecule in cannabis.

On this occasion, Mr. Mechaoulam stressed the importance of this kind of conclave to strengthen research and development in this area, in particular clinical trials and the standardization of medical cannabis products.

For his part, the director of the Israeli Agency for Medical Cannabis, Msgr. Yuval Landschaft underlined, in a similar intervention, the importance of research and development in the field of medical cannabis, noting that Israel is a leader in the agro-pharmaceutical industry of medical cannabis.

In this sense, he noted that the Agency is working to standardize medical cannabis products, strengthen clinical trials in this area, promote university degrees in medical cannabis, as well as training programs for doctors and all actors in the field.

Eminent scientists from Morocco and elsewhere took part in this Congress, initiated by the Moroccan Consultative Association for the Use of Cannabis (AMCUC) to discuss several issues relating to the various aspects relating to the use of cannabis in therapeutic purposes and its medical benefits.
