Moscow: NATO’s activity in Eastern Europe is directed towards a clash with Russia

Russia – The Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that NATO’s activity in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea region is directed to prepare its members for a possible clash with Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry statement said: “NATO’s expansion of its air base in Romania and its forces in Eastern Europe, the Black Sea region, Poland and the Baltic states is further evidence that NATO continues to militarize a possible clash with Russia.”

The Ministry stressed that “this activity is provocative, exacerbates military tension along the Russian border, creates additional threats to Russia’s security, and aims to prepare NATO members for a possible clash with Russia.”

The Ministry indicated that it will monitor and follow Romania’s steps and evaluate emerging risks based on its military plans.

It is noteworthy that the Romanian authorities announced earlier that they would invest 2.5 billion euros in modernizing the Mihail Gogalniceanu Air Base in Constanta Province to accommodate 10,000 soldiers and their families.

NATO claims the danger of a Russian attack on its countries after Ukraine, as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Alliance called on member states to prepare for years of tension with Russia.

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed in his statements yesterday that Russia is not the one moving towards the borders of NATO countries, but rather everything happened in the opposite direction, stressing that Russia is not about to fight the alliance that scares the people of its countries from Russia to extort their money.
