A 24-year-old motorist deliberately hit a gendarme on a motorcycle this Friday on the Lyon ring road before fleeing. Identified by surveillance cameras, the driver was arrested a few hours later at his home.
A crazy gesture that could well have turned into a tragedy. This Friday, on the Lyon ring road, a gendarme signaled to a motorist, whose driving he considered dangerous, to respect the Highway Code. If he was not in service at the time of the facts, according to the information of the newspaper Progress, whoever would be a lieutenant would still have warned him of his quality. The 24-year-old driver would then have swerved with his Peugeot 208 to bring down the gendarme.
The driver was driving without a license
If he fled, the perpetrator was quickly identified thanks to surveillance cameras. He was arrested shortly after at his home in Meyzieu, in the suburbs of Lyon, then placed in police custody for attempted homicide on a person holding public authority. According to information from our colleagues, the surveillance images would make it possible to affirm that his gesture was voluntary. The sanction could prove to be all the more serious as the young man circulated without a driving license according to the first elements of the investigation, which could explain the hit and run.
Road checks often put the lives of law enforcement in great danger. On April 11, two gendarmes died in the Landes while chasing a speeding motorist.
