The Public Ministry (MP) requested this Tuesday, March 12, a sentence of 40 years in prison against two Guatemalans and two foreigners for the crime of plagiarism or kidnapping.

These are the Guatemalans Erick Leonel Mijangos, alias “Veterano”; and José Francisco Castillo Mendoza, alias “Chueco.”

Also the Honduran Marcos Adonis Mejía and the Mexican José Abeldaño Valdía, alias “Moreno”, who face trial for the aforementioned crime.

The hearing took place in the Sixth Criminal Sentencing Court, where the two foreigners and the two Guatemalans heard the accusation presented by the MP.

The capture of those indicated was recorded on November 25, 2021, when a witness alerted the authorities of the events.

The defendants would have kidnapped several people inside the building where the Women’s Training and Support Center (CICAM) operates.

After having forcibly entered the entity’s facilities, they detained six women and four men who were in the facility in zone 7 of the capital.

At the time of capture, authorities confiscated a pistol and ammunition. The weapon was stolen a few moments before the attack against the people inside CICAM, according to the investigation.

During the hearing this Tuesday, March 12, the MP presented his conclusions and asked the court that those indicated be sentenced to a sentence of 40 years in prison and the payment of a fine of Q50 thousand.

While defense attorneys for those mentioned also presented their conclusions and asked the court to modify the crime raised by MP, which is that of plagiarism or kidnapping, to the crime of illegal detention and, if found guilty, obtain a lesser sentence than the raised by the research entity.

The court will continue to listen to the arguments of the lawyers before giving the last word to the accused and handing down a sentence in the case.
