[핀포인트뉴스 조영미 기자] The World Health Organization (WHO) said it was very concerned about Mpox, which has killed about 600 children in the Democratic Republic of Congo this year.

According to Archyde.com, on the 9th, WHO is cooperating with Congolese authorities to respond to and risk assess Mpox, which is occurring in almost all regions.

More than 13,000 cases of Mpox were reported in 2023, more than twice the number compared to the last peak in 2020.

On the 7th, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an alert about the outbreak of dangerous clade I mpox.

“This mutant virus, clade I, is known to be more lethal, so there is a risk if it is better adapted to human-to-human transmission,” said Rosamund Lewis, WHO director of Mfox.

In 2023, low-risk clade II spread globally primarily through sexual contact between men who have sex with men.

“Emerging evidence that Clade I can also be spread through sexual contact is concerning,” Lewis said.

According to Our World in Data, the cumulative number of confirmed cases of M-Fox worldwide is 92,182 (as of December 1), showing a gradual increase.

In Korea, the Mpox (monkey pox) crisis alert level was downgraded from ‘caution’ to ‘concern’ last September.

Mpox symptoms include fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, muscle and back pain, headache, and respiratory symptoms (sore throat, stuffy nose, cough, etc.). Symptoms may resemble a cold in the beginning, and a rash usually appears 1 to 4 days later.

Meanwhile, in the domestic stock market, Mpox-related stocks mentioned include Genematrix, Green Cross MS, Access Bio, Lab Genomics, Seegene, Pamgen Science, Hyundai Bio, Bioneer, Pharmicell, HK Innoen, and Myco Biomed.
