Olympic figure skating champion Nathan Chen spoke about the doping scandal with the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.
During the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, it became known that in December the athlete passed a positive test for the banned drug trimetazidine. The award ceremony of the team tournament, where Valieva won gold as part of the Russian team, was postponed indefinitely. Chen won silver with Team USA.
“We all deserve an award ceremony. We deserve this medal, and we deserved it before we left.
There are so many different factors and variables that played a pretty significant role in this decision.
It’s hard… I definitely sympathize with her and everything she’s been through. I know it was extremely difficult for her. But the bottom line is we need a clean sport,” Chen said.
