This Friday, in the premises of the Chamber of Deputiesstarted the first National Assembly of Women, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transvestites, Trans and Non-Binary Afro-descendants of Argentina, which aims to advance strategies against racism and discrimination.
The event was organized by the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI) with the support of him Investment Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF)where more than 200 women and Afro diversities from all over the country met to discuss current problems.
With the objective of Promote the political participation of communities and celebrate Afro ancestry in Argentine identity, the participants formed panels and commissions where talks, debates and presentations of their own cultural expressions are held.

In addition, the meeting aims to advance strategies to dismantle the practices of discrimination, racism and sexism, consolidating its visibility and recognition.
This Saturday the last day of the National Assembly of Women, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transvestites, Trans and Non-Binary Afro-descendants will take place. The activities from 9 in the morning at the Metropolitan University for Education and Work.
Among the cultural proposal, performances by Afro-descendant artists are expected, such as the poets Cynthia Lucero, Gabriela Caballero and María Dolores Burgos Marisa. In addition, the closing will be at the hands of the artistic expression “La familia rumba nuestra” made by the Afro-Argentine Community.

Greta Penathe head of the National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (INADI), was in charge of opening the Assembly together with Christian AsinelliCorporate Vice President of the Strategic Programming of CAF.
“This is the fruit of constant and persistent struggle of the Afro-Argentine movement together with the movements of our sister countries. Today two identities that are structurally overwhelmed, made invisible and depositories of cruelty, which are people of African descent, the women of our country and the orientations in non-hegemonic gender identities. We have had many advances as a country”, began Greta Pena.

On the other hand, the head of the organization said: “We have INADI, we have the anti-discrimination lawour human rights treaties are incorporated into the Constitution, we have even achieved this year the first conviction with an aggravated circumstance for racial hatred of history in our country. But we still have a lot of pending accounts.”
For his part, Christian Asinelli commented on the meeting: “This is a day that splits waters. We clearly reached this day through the work, through the struggle, through the effort, through the dedication, through the hours and hours and hours of militancy on this issue, of all those who are present here and I think that is the most important thing.” .
The former Vice President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Epsy Campbell Barrand the president of the Permanent Forum of people of African descent of the United Nations, Ana Baiardi.
“Today we are making an extraordinary story and we are standing on the shoulders of giant women, of our ancestors, who never got tired, who gave us the chance to be here today. They opened the doors for us to be in the places where we are today”, mentioned Campbell Barr, emphasizing the importance of the event.

For her part, the United Nations official explained: “Today is a day to celebrate and to regroup our strength and deliver to future generations an Argentina, a Latin America, a world with inclusion for all peoplewithout any discrimination, where our identities are cause for celebration but do not have to be a flag every day to be fighting for recognition”.
According to INADI, the organization has been developing different policies aimed at the Afro-Argentine Community with the objective of contribute to the eradication of racism and racial discrimination. In addition, it seeks to contribute to the fulfillment of the full enjoyment of rights of the citizens that integrate it, promoting their participation in the processes of elaboration of public policies that affect it.
