National Mother Tongue Shooting Festival Shows Indonesia Has Extraordinary Language Wealth – 2024-05-04 15:28:39

Head of Language Department Prof. E. Aminudin Aziz (Language Department Doc)

THE AGENCY for Language Development and Development (Language Agency), Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud-Ristek) stated that the National Mother Language Festival (FTBIN) makes all parties aware that Indonesia has extraordinary wealth, especially related to language.

Head of the Language Agency, E. Aminudin Aziz, said that this is a potential that exists in Indonesian society so that people can live as multilingual and multicultural people.

“Multilinguals can use many languages, even as polyglot (a term for someone who is fluent in various languages), namely regional languages, Indonesian and also foreign languages. “But on the other hand, we can also be multicultural or multicultural people,” he said at the closing of the National Mother Language Shooting Festival (FTBIN) in Jakarta, Saturday (4/5).

Furthermore, Amin added that at the opening of FTBIN a few days ago, Mother Tongue Franka Makarim said that if Indonesian society became multicultural and multilingual, the potential for development would be much greater and stronger.

Apart from that, FTBIN is also said to have shown that people’s linguistic knowledge in Indonesia is still very small compared to the number of regional languages in Indonesia.

“If we look again at this 8-hour performance, it shows that we are all ‘illiterate’ people because we don’t understand what they are saying. “If we master these 4 regional languages, then there are at least 68 regional languages that we don’t master and that means our linguistic knowledge is actually still very, very little,” stressed Amin.

“Therefore, today’s performance teaches us that no matter how great we are, our knowledge is still very little. “For that reason, let’s continue to learn,” he concluded. (D-2)
