A Lausanne candidate for the States
The young Vaudois Green Angela Zimmermann has announced that she is a candidate for the Council of States for the federal elections next October.
The co-president of the Vaud section of the Young Greens Angela Zimmermann announced on Sunday evening that she would be a candidate for the Council of States for the federal elections next October.
Aged 24, holder of a master’s degree in biology, the young woman made her announcement on Sunday evening on the show RTS Forum. She said there that she wanted to represent in Bern a canton of Vaud “feminine, young, united and committed to a socially and climatically just future”.
“Green Dynamics”
His announcement is a relative surprise, insofar as the Greens of Vaud have already appointed Raphaël Mahaim in the race for the States. If Angela Zimmermann recognizes the risk of a dispersion of votes, she believes that her candidacy will bring “a green dynamic” in this election.
According to her, her profile is both “distinct and complementary” to that of Raphaël Mahaim. The Lausannoise affirms, in “Forum”, that the Greens were initially “surprised” by this decision, but that they are now “happy to have such a motivated party youth”. Raphaël Mahaim did not respond to our requests on Sunday evening.
Until now, only the heavyweights of Vaudois politics had applied for the Council of States. The PLR rallied behind Pascal Broulis, while the PS and the Greens present a joint ticket with Pierre-Yves Maillard and Raphaël Mahaim.
