NATO “considers shooting down Russian missiles”. Sparks on the border with Poland –

Very high tension on the north-eastern border of Europe. NATO is considering different scenarios after the threat of Russian missiles on Polish territory. Among these it is considering the possibility of shooting them down when they get too close to its borders. This was stated by Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna to RMF24. “Several scenarios are being analyzed within NATO, including shooting down such missiles when they are very close to the Alliance border,” Szejna added, underlining that such an eventuality would still require Ukraine’s approval.

The words of the representative of the Warsaw executive were uttered after the Polish Armed Forces said that Russia violated Poland’s airspace at 4:23 local time on Sunday morning with a cruise missile launched against targets in western Ukraine . For this reason, the Russian ambassador to Poland, Sergei Andreyev, had been summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Warsaw, but yesterday the diplomat did not show up. According to Andreyev, in fact, Poland did not provide “any proof” of the alleged violation of airspace.

The Polish government had asked for clarification on the incident. The Russian cruise headed for Ukraine during the heavy night attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure had crossed the skies of Poland for about forty seconds, near the town of Oserdow, in the Lublin region. The episode had no consequences but in fact it contributed to raising the already sky-high tension.
