Islamabad: Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is returning to the country. According to reports, Fareef, who is currently living in London, will return to Pakistan after Eid. Confirming the report, senior PML-N leader Mian Javed Latif said he would talk to members of the coalition about the return of Nawaz Sharif.

Sharif’s return comes amid a political crisis in Pakistan following the ouster of Imran Khan. Mian Javed Latif clarified that all decisions on the question of whether to field a sheriff as a candidate were made only after discussions in the coalition. Eid is celebrated in Pakistan in the first week of May.

In 2017, the Supreme Court office removed the sheriff from office as prime minister in the Panama Papers case. Following this, Imran Khan Sorkar had filed several corruption cases against the 72-year-old Sharif. The sheriff went to London in 2019 after the Lahore High Court allowed him to seek medical treatment abroad. The sheriff did not return, promising in writing that he would return to Pakistan within four weeks.

The sheriff, meanwhile, praised the Supreme Court’s decision to undo the National Assembly. People are indebted to God for this decision. “Imran is starving the people of Pakistan,” he added. The sheriff expressed confidence that the coalition government would not last more than six months in the current political climate, adding that fresh elections would be the only solution to the crisis.
