The recruitment drive signals an aggressive push by the party to establish itself as a major vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election.
People’s Party of Kenya Recruitment Drive
The new entrants comprise sitting and former MCAs, MPs, senators, and gubernatorial aspirants. The largest concentration has emerged from the Mt Kenya region—including Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Embu—where dozens of aspirants seeking parliamentary and ward positions have been unveiled since the party’s launch on August 17, 2026. Homa Bay has also surfaced as a major source of recruits, with nearly 30 aspirants publicly presented under the PPK banner for parliamentary and county assembly seats.
Gubernatorial and Senatorial Hopefuls
Additionally, the party has attracted at least 10 gubernatorial and senatorial hopefuls. Among them are Ibrahim Said, who is seeking the Marsabit governor’s seat, and Kinoti Marete, a gubernatorial aspirant in Meru. PPK has also presented aspirants from constituencies stretching from Kandara, Gatanga, Mathioya, Kigumo, and Kipipiri to Kasipul, Karachuonyo, Homa Bay Town, Kitui Central, Garsen, Bumula, and Nyatike, alongside Senate hopefuls in Murang’a, Nyandarua, Kisii, Makueni, Migori, Narok, Kiambu, and Isiolo.
Nyoro, who has expressed presidential ambitions, maintained during a tour of Kirinyaga that the rapid expansion is intended to build a united front capable of defeating President William Ruto rather than undermining other opposition parties. he remarked.
Kirinyaga Tour and Presidential Ambitions
Despite the expansion, Nyoro cautioned opposition leaders against rushing to settle on a presidential candidate, arguing that an early decision would give the Ruto administration an opportunity to exploit divisions. He urged opposition parties to focus on presenting a common alternative to voters first.
The recruitment drive has encountered resistance from some opposition figures who questioned Nyoro’s intentions due to his former closeness to Ruto. Nyoro rejected the claims, stating that his disagreements are limited to a few individuals rather than the wider opposition.
