AMD announced during GDC 2024 its new version of supersampling technology, FSR 3.1, along with support for the Xbox Game Development Kit (GDK), promising improvements in image quality and improved support for developers.

FSR 3.1 enhancements include improved temporal stability, reduced ghosting and better detail preservationaiming to reduce the effect of “flickering” and “fizziness” on moving objects.

One of the most important changes is the decoupling of FSR 3 upscaling from frame generation, allowing FSR 3.1 frame generation technology to work with other upscaling solutions. Furthermore, the introduction of New AMD FidelityFX API will make it easier for developers to debug and ensure compatibility with updated versions of FSRcom suporte para Vulkan e Xbox GDK.

Xbox GDK support is especially significant as it not only covers Xbox Series consoles, but is also expected to include Xbox Game Pass for PC on Windows 10/11 and cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

With FSR 3 competing with NVIDIA’s DLSS 3.5, AMD is looking at comparable features like frame generation and working to increase gaming support. Its open-source nature and compatibility with any hardware offers a significant advantage.

The integration of FSR and similar technologies is seen as the future of gaming, especially with Microsoft’s DirectSR and a PlayStation 5 Pro upscaling solution expected to enter the picture. The battle for performance through AI upscaling is in full swing, with DLSS and FSR emerging as powerful weapons to improve the long-term player experience.
