New earthquake in Turkey – February 9, 2023

A new earthquake of magnitude 5.4 was recorded in the eastern part of Turkey. About this on the evening of February 8 informed European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

According to the center, the epicenter of the tremors was located 33 km southwest of the Turkish city of Bulanyk with a population of about 31.4 thousand people. The source lay at a depth of 60 km.

Recall that on Monday, February 6, two earthquakes with a magnitude of more than seven points occurred in the southeast of Turkey (at 04:17 local time – 7.7 points, at 13:24 – 7.6 points). The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Cyprus, Israel, Georgia, Abkhazia and even Sochi. The region continues to shake, with more than 300 aftershocks recorded, including three earthquakes above magnitude 6 and 24 earthquakes between magnitude 5 and magnitude 6.

The death toll exceeded 9 thousand people, almost 53 thousand were injured.
