New Hampshire Senate Candidates Make Final Push Ahead of Election Day

As the countdown to the midterm elections enters its final days, the high-stakes battle for a U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire has intensified. Democratic Congressman Chris Pappas and former Republican senator John Sununu spent Thursday hitting the campaign trail to rally voters ahead of Tuesday, November 3. Both contenders are vying for Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s seat in what remains a fiercely contested purple state.

The final stretch of the campaign follows a sharp debate on Wednesday night, where soaring living costs dominated the exchange. The messaging on economic strain carried directly into Thursday’s events. Rep. Pappas traveled to Manchester alongside Arizona Senator Mark Kelly to tour a local fire department, using the stop to emphasize cross-party appeal.

“I have a sense that the issues at play right now, high energy costs, healthcare cuts, housing prices that continue to soar, they cut across all the usual political dividing lines,” Pappas told supporters during the visit.

Stops on the Trail and Economic Focus

While Pappas focused his Thursday afternoon in Manchester, his opponent took his message to a small business in Farmington. John Sununu centered his remarks on domestic energy production, price transparency at hospitals, and expanding access to health savings accounts.

“Since the very beginning of this campaign, I’ve said affordability will be my top focus, bringing down the cost of living, bringing down the cost of healthcare, housing and energy,” Sununu stated.

Both candidates have sought to position themselves as the best equipped to tackle inflation and financial burdens for New Hampshire households. The state’s status as a purple state makes these economic arguments central to securing undecided voters in the closing hours of the cycle.

Polling Margins and Early Surging

Entering the final weekend before Election Day, public opinion data shows a slight advantage for the Democratic nominee. The most recent survey conducted by UMass Lowell indicates that Pappas holds a seven-point lead over Sununu.

Despite the polling gap, both campaigns are maintaining an aggressive schedule across the state to encourage maximum voter turnout.

Road to the Ballot Box

Voters across New Hampshire will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 3, to decide the race for Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s seat.
