Trump Returns to Gulf Coast for Third October Texas Visit
“I think it’s a good thing. I think he’s doing a great job for the country,” said Ismael, a Texas voter, ahead of a rally off the coast.
Donald Trump is scheduled to return to Texas on Tuesday, one week until Election Day, KSAT reported. The visit brings the midterm campaign back to the Port of Corpus Christi, where the Republican National Committee has scheduled him to take the stage at 2 p.m.
Shifting Itineraries and High-Stakes Midterm Races
Tuesday’s rally replaces a previously scheduled appearance in Waco. It is the third Texas stop in October for the midterm elections.
Earlier this month, Trump held a rally in San Antonio to urge voters to back Republican candidates in closely watched races. That visit included a push for Ken Paxton, who faces Democrat James Talarico.
Targeting the 34th Congressional District
The Corpus Christi stop is designed to build support for Republican Eric Flores. Flores holds the endorsement of Trump and is challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez in Texas’ 34th Congressional District, a district that stretches from Brownsville to Corpus Christi.
Sharp Divisions Among Gulf Coast Voters
Voters along the Gulf Coast are viewing the upcoming event through sharply contrasting political lenses.
“If people don’t see it that way, they don’t have any business being in America,” Ismael added. “You want to raise a flag, raise the American flag. Stand up for America, embrace America, love America.”
Other residents offered a different perspective on the itinerary. Liz, a local voter, stated she has no interest in attending the event.
Tight Security and a Double-Header Schedule
“What he does is anything he wants, and not what we want,” she said. “I want a president that represents the people, and he’s not something I would go see.”
Logistics for the day begin early. Gates at the Port of Corpus Christi are scheduled to open at 10:30 a.m., with the rally beginning at 12:30 p.m. It remains unclear who will join Trump on stage.
Once the Corpus Christi event concludes, the president is scheduled to travel to Lubbock for another rally later that evening.
