New Mazda CX-80 (2024): Diesel six-cylinder, equipment, price

Until recently, Mazda’s largest SUV was just over 4.5 meters long, and you would be hard pressed to find anything larger in the European range. Some time ago, however, it was expanded by the CX-60 model, sitting on a completely new platform, which (unusual for today) prefers rear wheels and, in addition to a plug-in hybrid, can also run a six-cylinder diesel. The same technology will also be offered by the hot new product – the almost five-meter flagship CX-80.

She officially introduced herself to the world just a few moments ago. The appearance of the car probably won’t surprise you, for example the front is completely identical to the “sixties”. The advantage is the wheelbase stretched over three meters, which brings a different silhouette and a different rear design. And it also promises a lot more space in the back seats, which is one of the weak points of the smaller model.

Although the front is the same as the CX-60, the rear is different.

The Mazda CX-80 can accommodate up to seven passengers, the more luxurious version will offer six seats with so-called captain’s chairs and its own center console in the second row, which can possibly be replaced by a passage to the third row.

There is also refined technology on board, including three brand new ones. Mazda, for example, has voice control via the Alexa assistance service, a new navigation system with online services, as well as the Trailer Hitch View function, which notifies the position of the vehicle in relation to the trailer on the center screen. By the way, the car can handle up to 2.5 tons on a ball.

The CX-80 SUV will offer a voice assistant called Alexa originally from Amazon.

The range of engines is based on the CX-60 model. This means a base in the form of a plug-in hybrid, which combines a 2.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder with an electric motor and a traction battery. Together, they deliver 327 horsepower and 500 newton meters of torque. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, reaches 195 km/h and can run 60 kilometers on electricity alone. Thanks to the low table emissions, it also achieves the advantages of “electric” license plates.

However, for our people, the second drive will be more interesting – a six-cylinder turbodiesel with a volume of 3.3 liters! That is, the engine room, which the vast majority of competitors have already definitively written off. The diesel has 254 horsepower and, thanks to a little mild-hybrid help, promises decent fuel consumption for the class. We already know from the “sixties” that the new engine has no problem driving for a long time at values starting with five.

Both engines come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The on-board technologies also include a driving mode selector, but also new functions – more sophisticated support when driving in a queue, a smart brake assistant or emergency lane keeping.

We will try all these news soon. Customers can order the Mazda CX-80 from May this year, the first units will appear on the roads during the autumn. We still have to wait for the complete Czech price list. But we already know that the plug-in hybrid starts at 1,390,790 CZK, i.e. less than 60,000 more than the CX-60 in the same equipment line, which is now on sale.
