New Road Signs Installed on E40: Closure and Diversion Information

2023-08-07 06:23:41

The E40 will be closed to traffic between Grand-Bigard and Affligem in the direction of Ghent from this Monday evening for the installation of new road signs. The E40 will be closed between the Grand-Bigard interchange and the Affligem ramp this Monday and Tuesday between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. towards Ghent. Same thing in Ternat.

Transit traffic between Brussels and Ghent will be diverted via Antwerp. Cars departing from Ghent in the direction of the capital are also advised to pass through Antwerp, given that traffic in this direction will only be on one traffic lane instead of three with a complete interruption of up to 15 minutes.

Local traffic will be redirected via the N9 to Asse and the N208 to Affligem. During the installation of the gantries, the road towards Brussels will also be closed near the work area.

The Flemish traffic agency (Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer, AWV) will install four new lane signaling gantries on the E40 from Ternat and Affligem. The AWV previously installed 9 gates between Grand-Bigard and Ternat to improve safety and traffic flow on the motorway.

The installation of the new porches is part of the construction of a route to Ghent and Ostend for rush hours. Traffic signs will indicate if the lane is open and what speed is allowed. They can also be used to slow down traffic during busy periods.
