New York stocks mixed on retail earnings reports

The New York Stock Exchange was mixed on earnings reports from retailers such as Walmart and Home Depot.

At the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on the 16th local time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 34,152.01, up 239.57 points (0.71%) from the previous trading day.

The Standard & Poor’s (S&P) 500 index rose 8.06 points (0.19%) to 4,305.20, and the Nasdaq index, which focuses on technology stocks, fell 25.50 points (0.19%) to 13,102.55 from the battlefield.

The Dow rose for the fifth straight day, and the S&P 500 continued its uptrend.

Investors watched the earnings reports of retail companies such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot, as well as US economic indicators. In particular, as these companies reported better-than-expected earnings, their stock prices rose more than 4%. However, the stock market was mixed on the day as the Nasdaq index fell.
