Nigerien military authorities have repealed a law adopted in 2015 by Niger to combat the illicit trafficking of migrants, Anadolu learned from an official source.
“The National Council for the Protection of the Fatherland orders: law no. 2015-35 of May 26, 2015, relating to the illicit trafficking of migrants is repealed as of May 26, 2015,” indicates an order signed by the president of the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Homeland (CNSP) and Head of State, General Abdourahamane Tiani.
“The convictions pursuant to this law as well as their effects are erased as of May 26, 2015,” added the order, specifying that “no claim of any nature whatsoever on the basis of this order is admissible”.
In 2015, Niger and the European Union (EU) signed an agreement to lead a joint fight against the migration of young Africans wanting to go to Europe.
Since the coup d’état of July 26 against President Mohamed Bazoum, relations between Niger and the European Union have become tense. Like France, the European Union still refuses to recognize the Nigerien military authorities and demands the release of the deposed president and his reinstatement.
