Nigerian Tobi Amusan breaks 100m hurdles world record

Nigerian Tobi Amusan broke the world record for the 100m hurdles this Sunday by finishing her semi-final in 12’12 at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene.

Tobi Amusan, 25, erased this Sunday the mark of American Kendra Harrison (12’20 in 2016), who was running in the same semi-final in Eugene. The two women are therefore qualified for the final, which will take place on the night of Sunday to Monday, French time.

A final that promises to be exceptional

In great shape, the Nigerian, a former student at the University of El Paso in Texas, had already set a new personal best on Saturday in the playoffs in 12’40. She had finished fourth at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 and the last Worlds in Doha in 2019.

The final promises to be extremely fast, as American Kendra Harrison ran her semi-final in 12’27, eleventh best performance of all time. Jamaican Britany Anderson clocked a Jamaica record 12’31 and Puerto Rican Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn 12’32.
