The American sportswear giant Nike is scheduled to pay more than 100 million euros annually, following the deal it concluded with the German Football Association, according to the German newspaper “Handelsblatt”, citing informed sources.
The German national team’s kits are scheduled to be manufactured by Nike starting in 2027.
If this value of the deal is confirmed, it will be double the amount currently paid by the German clothing and sports supplies company Adidas, which supplies the German national team’s clothing, for 50 million euros annually.
The German Football Association announced yesterday, Thursday, that Nike will manufacture the “Machines” national team kits starting in 2027, although it did not reveal the size of the contract.
Managing Director of the German Football Association, Holger Blaske, said, “Nike made the best financial offer ever.”
The Treasurer of the German Football Association, Stefan Grünewald, explained that the money was a major factor in completing the deal, as he said, “We are grateful that we are able to look forward to an economically stable future again as a federation thanks to the commitment promised by Nike.”
For his part, German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck criticized the local Football Association’s decision, telling reporters, “I cannot imagine the German shirt without the three stripes.”
He added, “The Adidas kits, with their black, red and gold colors, have always been a part of me. They are a piece of German identity. I was hoping for more local patriotism.”
The supplier company will be changed to end the partnership between the German Federation and Adidas, which has lasted for more than 70 years.
The German men’s national team won all four of its World Cup titles, and its three European Nations Cup titles, while wearing Adidas shirts. This also applies to the German women’s team, which won two World Cup titles and 8 European Championship titles with the German company.
The partnership with Nike is scheduled to continue until 2034.
