News game Nintendo Switch Sports: the next generation of Wii Sports is unveiled, details and infos

No one expected it: at the Nintendo Direct, Big N announced Nintendo Switch Sports, no more and no less than a game following the iconic Wii Sports. And it’s pretty promising

Niko, let’s go bowling

It’s 2006 and after several years of an appreciated GameCube, but largely dominated by a bodybuilded PS2, Nintendo is trying everything for the whole: a machine totally against the current, ultra-mainstream, almost rebellious as it does not respect the new technological codes. The Wii is here… and the bet is risky. Risky, yes, but nevertheless won handily since the little beast of Big N, light years away from the power and HD graphics of the PS3 and Xbox 360, manages to win in the charts. In fact, it’s even a real cultural cardboard.

His immense strength, undeniably, is to speak to all generations and profiles. Without dwelling on a complete retrospective of the machine, Wii Sports was immediately one of its spearheads since THE game officially bundled with each console at no extra cost. It is precisely through this that Nintendo’s party game has managed to climb to the very top of the list of the best-selling games in history, the Wii having found over 101 million takers. Stratospheric.

Then necessarily, when Nintendo Switch Sports was announced last night at the Nintendo Direct, it is any generation (actually aging, outch) that has expressed its emotion, piqued to life in front of plethora of memories and good times spent in front of Wii Sports. This new iteration will take over the concept, the artistic direction, some sports and even some sound effects: in short, it is both the game of nostalgia and the one that will bring the newcomers together. History repeats itself, will sales do the same?

The warm-up is now

It was with the help of a trailer and even a presentation held by the current CEO of the Nintendo Group, Shinya Takahashi, that Nintendo Switch Sports presented itself in detail. The principle will remain the same, to have to tackle several sports through mini-games watered down thanks to the gyroscopic functions of the Joy-Con. A game that can be enjoyed wonderfully well by many and that will offer the return of legendary disciplines and other totally new, for a total of six at the release of the title. Other sports will arrive in reinforcement later, in update, starting with golf.

List of Nintendo Switch Online disciplines

  • Bowling
  • Tennis
  • Chambara (sword duel)
  • Badminton
  • Volleyball
  • Football (penalty shootout)
  • Golf (from September 2022)

The small originality of the title is the greatest exploitation of Joy-Con ; for example, the game will receive an update this summer so that one can engage in penalty kicks by placing the Joy-Con in a leg warmer, included in the physical edition of the game. In fact, we will actually be able to give real kicks in his living room! Similarly, for volleyball, the pair of Joy-Con will be used to imitate the cuff or the pass, by gathering the hands.

Note that a single-player and multiplayer game is obviously planned, with even a big online facette for the latter : we will unlock items to customize our avatars, for example, while a pro league will be offered for the most seasoned players.

Finally, be aware that the first game sessions will be organized to serve as a technical test, scheduled for February 19 and 20, or in a handful of days only. As for the release of Nintendo Switch Sports itself, see you on April 29 for an announced price of 39.99 euros.
