Entrants will take the test during one day in two stages, each of which will last two hours

Preparations for the 2024 entry campaign are underway in Ukraine. The dates when future applicants will take the NMT are already known. There is also an explanation of what to do for students from the occupied territories or those studying abroad.

NMT-2024: dates and subjects

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has approved the dates of this year’s national multi-subject test (NMT). The press service of the department reports that the NMT will be held from May 14 to July 19. This is stipulated by the order of the Ministry of Education and Culture No. 1581, which was signed on December 29, 2023.

Ukrainian entrants will take an exam in four subjects. Three of them have already been determined, one more everyone will choose for himself.

Mandatory subjects will be the following:

  • Ukrainian language;

  • mathematics;

  • History of Ukraine.

Additional subjects (optional) will be the following:

  • Ukrainian literature;

  • English;

  • Spanish;

  • German language;

  • French;

  • biology;

  • geography;

  • physics;

  • chemistry.

Entrants will take the exam in all four subjects in one day.

The first stage will last 120 minutes, and during this time the participants of the NMT will pass a test of their knowledge of the Ukrainian language and mathematics. After that, they will take a break for 20 minutes. After the rest, the second stage will begin, which will also last for two hours. During this time, entrants will pass tests on the history of Ukraine and a subject of their choice.

“We are moving in the direction of what is today the standard in the European Union, namely, at least five subjects are tested at school graduation.”— said the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine in September 2023 Mykhailo Vynnytskyi during the press conference “Introductory tests in 2024: what to expect?”.

Previously, testing took place in June or July, but in 2024 it will take place in May. Also, there will not be two changes of testing due to its length.

Graduates will take the NMT, as before, in temporary examination centers and, under the condition of an air alert, will descend into shelter until it is completed. Director of the Ukrainian Center for the Evaluation of the Quality of Education, Tetyana Vakulenko, added that it is planned to strengthen security measures, namely the return of metal detectors.

The Minister of Education commented on the approved schedule of NMT-2024 on his Facebook page Oxen Lisovyi.

“I know that testing four subjects during one day can be a considerable burden. But I emphasize once again that we do this primarily for the safety of the entrants and to create equal conditions for all. This model allows the entrant to appear at the testing point only once. Especially this is relevant for those who are forced to travel to a nearby settlement to collect NMT. In addition, the more sessions, the greater the probability of getting on an air alert.”– explained Oksen Lisovyi.

The minister also added that the information about the ban on the use of drinking water, which was previously distributed on the network, does not correspond to reality. However, using it on a computer will be prohibited.

What will be the tasks

The Ukrainian Center for Evaluation of the Quality of Education has approved the characteristics of the national multi-subject test of 2024.

The website published information on the number of tasks for each subject, forms of test tasks, time for their completion, and scoring schemes.

Tests on Ukrainian language and literature, history of Ukraine, biology, chemistry and geography will contain 30 tasks each. You will have to complete 22 and 20 tests in mathematics and physics, respectively, and 32 in foreign languages (English, Spanish, German, French).

“All NMT tasks will correspond to the content of the ZNO programs in educational subjects”,– emphasized in UTSOYAO.

Participants will be able to create their electronic account, upload the necessary documents and enter personal data. Registration will allow you to select subjects for testing and make changes to information during the registration period. After this period, it will be impossible to make changes to the information.

In turn, Tatiana Vakulenko in an interview with the School, KEVIN explained in more detail how the registration process for NMT-2024 will take place.

  • It will be possible to create a personal account from March to the beginning of April. Detailed dates will be known when the calendar plan for testing is approved. Registration will take place entirely online.

  • You will need to upload certain documents of your own and enter information about yourself and select the subjects you are interested in, or provide additional information about yourself that is important to take part in the assessment, including information relating to special educational needs, etc.

What should entrants do in the occupied territories and abroad

In 2023, 30,000 entrants to Ukrainian universities passed entrance tests in foreign examination centers. For NMT 2023, 496 temporary examination centers were created in 32 countries and 53 cities in Europe and North America.

Tatyana Vakulenko notes that the establishment of relations with foreign partners for the organization of temporary examination centers is currently underway.

“There will be testing abroad, but I cannot name the list of countries yet. This is not an easy task, because at this time the educational process, sessions, and training are also taking place with foreign partners. Not all countries will be able to provide us with computer classrooms and specialists who will cooperate with us . Accordingly, we do not guarantee that the list of countries will remain the same, but we do everything that depends on us so that as many colleagues as possible agree to work with us.”– said Vakulenko.

Ukrainian graduates who are abroad should register in advance so that everyone who wants to can take part in NMT-2024. Vakulenko emphasized that the duration and technique of testing for NMT participants abroad will be the same as for participants in Ukraine.

As for the graduates who live in the temporarily occupied territories, then Mykhailo Vinnytskyi on the air of Ukraine Media Center, he noted that for them, just like last year, they will be able to pass the NMT after an interview.

“We have two centers: “Crimea – Ukraine” and “Donbas – Ukraine”, which are trying to make it possible for graduates to enter Ukrainian universities. Unfortunately, this year, not all applicants were able to physically get to the places of study.”he remarked.
