No. 5 Michigan Upsets No. 2 UConn to Secure Historic Program Win

No. 5 Michigan secured the highest-ranked win in program history by defeating No. 2 UConn 77-66 on November 6, 2026, at the Crisler Center, behind 22 points from Te’Yala Delfosse and 19 points from Olivia Olson.

UConn entered the contest with a 39-game regular-season winning streak stretching back to their last defeat on February 6, 2025. Instead of maintaining that run, the Huskies ran into a disciplined Michigan side that broke an all-time 3-47 record against top-five opponents as reported by Maize n Brew. The matchup marked the first-ever meeting of top-five women’s basketball teams in the AP Top 25 hosted in Ann Arbor.

Delfosse and Olson Lead Wolverines to Upset Victory

Junior guard Te’Yala Delfosse paced the Wolverines with a career-high 22 points and nine rebounds, shooting 8-of-13 from the floor according to USA Today. Fellow junior Olivia Olson added 19 points and eight boards while anchoring the perimeter defense. ESPN noted that the victory improved Michigan to 3-47 all time against top-five opponents.

Making 8 of her 13 field goal attempts, Delfosse also managed to sink 4 out of 8 shots from long distance. Playing 37 minutes, standout junior Olivia Olson provided all-around support to Delfosse by putting up 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Michigan’s roster depth showed up across the box score. Stanford transfer Courtney Ogden contributed 12 points in her team debut, and sophomore Syla Swords chipped in 10 points and five rebounds as detailed by NGSC Sports. The Wolverines played without starting point guard Mila Holloway, who remained sidelined with an injured left leg according to WRAL. Holloway is out indefinitely with her left leg injury.

Huskies Fall Behind Under Defensive Pressure

UConn head coach Geno Auriemma pointed to his team’s lack of preparedness after the opening tip. They were better organized, they were more discipline, they ran their stuff, Auriemma said as reported by ESPN. The Huskies struggled against Michigan’s length, converting just 42 percent of their field goals and hitting only 8 of 31 attempts from beyond the arc (26 percent) according to GBMWolverine.

After three tightly contested periods where neither side led by more than six points reported ClickOnDetroit, Michigan put together a decisive run early in the fourth quarter. Hundreds of the 9,575 fans in attendance rushed the floor at the final buzzer to celebrate according to ESPN.

To have UConn come here and be able to knock off the best team in college basketball, or one of the best teams, it is really, really cool. I’m happy for our players and our fans.
