Microsoft wants to make sure that Windows 11 users are getting the best support and security on the operating system. For this, the Redmond giant started this week the forced update of the system to version 22H2.

The end of support (EOS) for machines running Windows 11 21H2 will occur on October 10, 2023. Microsoft says it wants to ensure support for systems with the new automatic update.

On Thursday the 26th, we began automatically updating consumer and unmanaged business devices running Windows 11, version 21H2 Home and Pro editions to Windows 11, version 22H2.

Despite appearing to be an invasive measure, the company reinforces that it has adopted this update method since Windows 10 and that it will maintain the method in the new operating system to help keep the user “protected and productive”.

Although the update is automatic, Microsoft points out that it will start distributing the new version to machines that have been running the new version for the longest time.

If you want to perform the update manually, just follow these steps:

  1. Open your computer’s settings;
  2. Clique em “Windows Update”;
  3. Select “Check for updates”;
  4. Finally, if Windows 11 version 22H2 appears, click on it to start the process.

Although this is an official update, Microsoft warns of the possibility of blocking the update in situations of incompatibility on the computer.

Bleeping Computer reported an inconsistency related to specific intel Sound Smart Technology (Intel SST) drivers on Intel’s 11th Gen Core processors. As a result, this can lead to blue screens of death, which is quite unpleasant. In response, Microsoft decided to stop the Windows 11 22H2 update on these machines.

Have you joined Windows 11 yet? What are you thinking of the experience?
