Shambhu Yadav, the real Pancha police station chief, said he stopped Anita Devi Murmo, 25, and her colleague Akash Kumar Manji, 27, as they were returning to the hotel from the site of a shopping mall.

The real head of the police station added that the two gang members were harassing shopkeepers at the government-funded site as he asked them to report to the local police station to allocate property.

When confronted by them, the gang members confessed the whole truth and the fake police station was raided and 3 other people were arrested, they are: Ramesh Kumar, Wakeel Kumar and Julie Kumari Manji.

The search for the sixth suspect and suspected gang leader, Paula Yadav, is still underway.

The arrested gang members denied any legal wrongdoing, saying they believed they had actual jobs in the police force, but they were found with 40 election cards used to apply for development programs, and 500 applications for social housing.
