Goma, March 11, 2024 – The civil society forces of North Kivu say they are stunned by the untimely strategic withdrawals of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) in the face of the advances of the M23 supported by the Rwandan army.
In a press release made public Monday March 11, this citizen structure regrets that the Congolese army is only waiting for attacks from the enemy. According to her, these criticized military tactics leave the smell of internal complicity within the loyalist army and the institutions of the DRC.
“The tactics described are characterized on the ground by the observance of a ceasefire by the FARDC who are only waiting to be attacked in order to respond and if unfortunately the enemy gains ascendancy over the army loyalist, the latter has no other alternative than to apply the definitive strategic withdrawal. That is to say, once an entity passes into the hands of the M23-RDF terrorists, initiatives to recover it are difficult to follow, and this has been the case since the capture of Runyonyi and Chanzu in 2022. underlines the civil society of North Kivu.
Furthermore, this citizen structure regrets that despite the increase in military equipment and troops, nothing changes on the ground and the security situation is increasingly deteriorating.
To do this, civil society calls on the Congolese head of state, Félix Tshisekedi, to urgently dispatch the vice-prime minister, minister of national defense and the chief of general staff of the FARDC with the mission of residing in the North -Kivu until the total liberation of all towns under the control of the M23 rebels.
She insists that there be mobilization of the intelligence services to identify all the officers and agents of the institutions of the Republic complicit with the M23-RDF and bring them before the courts for educational sanctions.
