Not good enough for Germany? The DFB slept with these talents

Here the DFB had penned

Fresh forces: Are these Flicks new DFB stars?

Tobias Wiltschek

Not only in the case of Can Uzun does the DFB not make a happy impression. Other talents also slipped through the fingers of the German Football Association. SPORT1 highlights the most prominent cases.

Young, successful – but with no prospects at the DFB.

It is no longer just isolated cases of talents who do not get a chance to play in German national teams.

Recent example: Can Longwho has already scored 20 goals in 17 competitive games for 1. FC Nürnberg this season.

Born in Regensburg to Turkish parents, Uzun could easily play for Germany but has yet to receive a call from the DFB. Instead, the striker appears for the Turkish U19.

There are many examples like him. SPORTS1 lists other talents that the DFB has not taken care of at all or not enough.

Paul Wanner (17 years, FC Bayern)

Paul Wanner can play for Germany or Austria

Born in Austria, he has a German father and has therefore played for the various U-national teams of the DFB.

But that doesn’t mean that Wanner will continue to play for Germany.

Firstly, players with multiple citizenships can still change associations relatively easily at junior level, and secondly The birthplace of the Bavarian talent is also trying to get the 17-year-old’s services.

National coach Ralf Rangnick had already invited Wanner to a training camp for the senior national team in the winter – putting the DFB under pressure.

Joti Chatzialexiou, sporting director of the German national teams, was anything but enthusiastic. “Basically, I’m not a fan of association hopping. Playing for a national team means identifying with the country and the association. We demand that from every player,” he told the media group Münchner Merkur/tz.

Should Wanner now complete the first international matches for Austria, he would be lost for the DFB for good.

Kenan Yidliz (17, Juventus Turin)

Will Stefan Kuntz Germany snatch away Kenan Yildiz as Turkey national coach?

Bayern have the 17-year-old attacking midfielder already at Juventus Turin lost because, firstly, they did not want to meet his financial demands and, secondly, they could not show him any prospects for the professional team.

Something similar is now threatening the DFB. Because the German-Turk, who died in 2022 from Guardian was voted one of the top 60 players of the 2005 vintage, has already completed his first assignment for the Turkish U21s.

Here, too, Germany threatens to look into the tube: Does the German Stefan Kuntz, of all people, snatch away his home country Yildiz as Turkey’s national coach?

Malik Tillman (20, FC Bayern/Glasgow Rangers)

Malik Tillman has decided against the DFB team

With the native of Nuremberg, the topic is already over. The 20-year-old, who is currently on loan from FC Bayern to Glasgow Rangers, has already played four international matches for the USA.

He went through the German junior teams up to U21.

“We regret Malik’s decision and it surprised us a lot,” Germany U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo told the Mail last year kicker. “We encouraged him as a younger player in the U21s, placed a lot of trust in him and gave him match practice. In addition, we were in intensive exchange regarding his prospects up to the senior national team.”

Obviously, however, these prospects were not enough for the attacking midfielder.

Lazar Samardzic (21, Udinese Calcio)

Lazar Samardzic will play for Serbia

Also the Battle for the midfielder born in Berlin in 2002 the DFB lost a few days ago.

Samardzic, whose family is from Serbia, was unable to assert himself at RB Leipzig and joined Udinese Calcio in Serie A in 2021.

The Serbs Dusan Vlahovic and Filip Kostic (both Juventus) also play there. Whether they finally convinced him of their national team is not known.

What is certain, however, is that he is turning his back on the DFB after scoring a goal in the German U21s’ 4-2 win against Italy last November.

Josip Stanisic (22, FC Bayern)

Josip Stanisic finished third at the World Cup with Croatia

The Born in Munich, he also runs for the country of his ancestors – in his case it is the Croatian selection.

He also played his first international matches for Germany – in the U19 team.

The decision caused bad blood in Croatia at the time. The association there was of the opinion that the Bayern right-back had been influenced in his decision by his advisor Dieter Hoeneß.

When the 22-year-old then caught the eye of the Croatian selection coach again due to strong performances with the Bayern pros, he gave in to courtship and initially played for the U21s.

He now has eight senior internationals under his belt and even won the bronze medal with Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar.

Stanisic even played the first World Cup game of his career over 90 minutes in the match for third place against Morocco. To date, he has eight international matches.

Raul König (17, Borussia Dortmund)

BVB youngster Raul König now plays for Spain

With the 17-year-old BVB striker, there is at least the theoretical hope that he will find his way (back) to the DFB.

The youngster from Borussia Dortmund played a total of seven international matches for the German U16 and U17 team before BVB announced the “surprising change of national teams” on its website in February.

Instead of playing for Germany, the offensive player has already appeared in four games for Spain – and met Germany in the second game at the Algarve Cup of the U17 national teams in mid-February. The game ended 1:1.

In the end, the Spaniards won the tournament, with König contributing an assist. Germany, on the other hand, came last and seems to have bad cards with him too.
