2023-08-25 08:20:17

Vienna (OTS) The Green Parliament Club invites you to a non-partisan parliamentary conference under the patronage of Doris Schmidauer. The central question is where Iran stands for freedom, democracy and human rights one year after the beginning of the revolution and in which direction the country will develop in the future. In addition to the domestic and foreign policy effects of the upheavals in Iran and the role of the international community, the conference will highlight the social situation of women in Iranian society and human rights issues. In top-class panels with members of parliament, activists and experts from Austria and Germany, the measures to be taken to support sustainable democratic change in Iran will be discussed.

“Around the world, the Iranian diaspora and supporters have come together to draw international attention to the situation in Iran and to raise public awareness of the importance of the freedom struggle. One year after the violent death of Jina Masha Amini, which triggered the largest protests against the mullahs’ regime since 1979, we want to raise awareness of the issues for which people in Iran are risking their lives to protest. It is important to think about our responsibility together and to explore strategic options for political action,” says Ewa-Ernst Dziedzic, spokeswoman for foreign policy and human rights for the Green Party and initiator of the Iran conference.

Moderation: Foreign policy expert and journalist Petra Ramsauer

Guests of Honor: Massoud Mossaheb and Kamran Ghaderi (former political prisoners in Iran)

Speakers include: National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka; Chairwoman of the Green Party Sigi Maurer; Members of various parties represented in the National Council; Members of the European Parliament, peace and conflict researcher Hannah Neumann; Executive Director Amnesty International Austria Shoura Hashemi; deputy Federal Chairwoman of the Greens – Green Alternative Germany Pegah Edalatian; former senior official of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and founder of the Jina Mahsa Amini Initiative Homayoun Alizadeh; Journalist, war reporter and founder of HAWAR.help Düzen Tekkal.
