The red and white team of Sotiris Sylaidopoulos defeated Lance 4-2 on penalties at the Karaiskaki stadium and advanced to the “8” of the tournament, where they will face the winner of the Bayern-Feyenoord match away from home. The normal duration of the match ended with a 2-2 draw, as Olympiacos came back from 0-2 at the beginning of the second half.
The score opened in the 19th minute for the visitors with a direct foul by Ayada Sisuba, the Belgian star of Lance with the highest market value, while Fofana made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute with a strong shot from inside the area.
The Greek Youth champions reduced the score with a penalty won and executed by Babis Kostoulas in the 58th minute. Four minutes later, Olympiacos equalized with Stavros Pneumonidis following a childish mistake by the French goalkeeper. So the match went to the penalty shoot-out, where the French missed twice and Olympiacos prevailed 4-2, succeeding in all executions with Bakula, B. Kostoula, Liatsikoura and Tanoulis.
It is worth noting that the Greek team was playing without two of its key players, as Papakanellos was suspended and Mouzakitis was ill (he had a fever the previous match).
