The quality of lighting, fog, relief, LOD detail, shadow filtering should be set to medium values, and the optimal choice for low settings would be post-processing and volumetric lighting. You also need to enable SSAO. Digital Foundry noticed an interesting detail. Horror does not use the full range of ray tracing, and there are certain problems with path tracing, such as the lack of indirect shadows in some places. Apparently, Remedy Entertainment is also using a combination of rasterization and path tracing – this helps the game run much more efficiently. And one of the few disadvantages was the radius of the appearance of shadows, which can form right during movement and distract attention.
