Orges & The Ockus-Rockus Band feat. Benny Omerzell

The composer Orges Toçe sings about freedom with his Ockus-Rockus Band in “Balkanbilly” odes in the main broadcasting hall.

With their third album “Peshk” (“Fish” in German), Albanian-born guitarist and singer Orges Toçe and his Ockus-Rockus Band, consisting of Christian Marquez-Eberle on drums and Bernd Satzinger on bass, develop their own unique Balkan style -beats, rock ‘n’ roll, gypsy swing, blues and jazz, which they themselves call “Balkanbilly”. The busy keyboard man (5K HD, Kompost3, Jazzorchester Vorarlberg) Benny Omerzell will support the Ockus Rockus Band around frontman Orges Toçe that evening
Orges Toçe has distinguished himself as one of the most gifted singers, songwriters and guitarists in Austria over the past decade. As a man who learned classical violin as a child and later studied jazz guitar in Vienna, he can draw on the full musical spectrum when he combines Balkan music traditions and rock’n’roll into powerful, sparkling songs. The fact that Toçe recites his furious accusations against politics and hypocrisy, his odes to cultural diversity, freedom and independence, and his poetic summaries of life experiences in his native Albanian does not detract from the enjoyment. On the contrary! First of all, keywords in German, Spanish or English flash up as signposts from time to time. Secondly, the sound of speech and music are seldom as elegantly fused as in Orges Toçe, when he sings highly melodically in a rough voice and lets his aggressively and smoothly played jazz guitar oscillate between manouche swing, rockabilly, surf rock and punk. As an additional special feature, the numerous three-part choir passages should be mentioned, which are also performed live by Orges & The Ockus-Rockus Band.
