Ostapenko did not make it past the first round of the Stuttgart WTA 500 tournament

Ostapenko, ranked tenth in the WTA rankings and seeded eighth at the tournament, lost 3-6, 1-6 to Czech Linda Noskova, ranked 31st in the WTA rankings.

Ostapenko started the match with serve, losing the first four games, and the games with her serve were dry.

The Latvian tennis player managed to win the eighth game, taking advantage of the third of three break points in a row, but she lost the next game.

Noskova started the second set on serve, winning the first five games. After facing one break point in the seventh game, the Czech finished the game with her first match point.

For her performance in Germany, the Latvian tennis player earned one world ranking point.

The two tennis players met on court only once; last year, in the first round of the WTA 250 series tournament in Birmingham, the Latvian tennis player prevailed in three sets.

Ostapenko has won two titles this season and has a 17-6 win-loss record, while Noskova has won 14 of her 20 matches this year. She had her most successful start to the season in Australia, reaching the semi-finals of the WTA 500 series in Brisbane and the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

At the tournament in Miami, both Ostapenko and Noskova lost in the 1/16 finals.

Noskova will meet in the 1/8 finals with German Angelique Kerber (WTA 332) or British tennis player Emma Raducanu (WTA 303).

Last year at the tournament in Stuttgart, Ostapenko did not make it past the second round, losing to Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, but Noskova is playing in Stuttgart for the first time.

The tournament in Stuttgart takes place on clay courts.
